Armed with a 3-string cigar box guitar, trusty 6-string, and shed-built foot drums, Jungle Jim Smith is a one-man-blues-band with a rock’n’roll heart. Delivered with a raw croon, he blends dirty blues and swamp boogie that pumps with rockabilly grit, forging a full-band sound uniquely his own.
After many years fronting bands, Jungle Jim began his foray into one-man-bandship in 2021. With songwriting inspired by OG blues legends such as Leadbelly and Blind Willie Johnson, his impressive arsenal of originals are predominantly upbeat and danceable, interspersed with soulful ballads that wander into nostalgic yet uncharted jam-lands.
Based in the rolling hills of South Gippsland, Jungle Jim Smith relentlessly tours Victoria and beyond, bringing his up-beat boogie vibes to all kinds of beer gardens, bars, small halls and big breweries. A fast favourite in the state circuit, he has played numerous festivals including Echuca-Moama Winter Blues, Boolarra Folk, Aireys Inlet Music Festival and is a regular crowd favourite aboard The Blues Train in Queenscliff.
After a well-received debut 7-track EP Electric Boogieland in 2023, Jungle Jim Smith recently released his new album ‘This is Ghost Country’ in Spring 2024.

"This is Ghost Country" NEW ALBUM, OUT NOW!
"Gritty and ballsy ... Powerful grooves and rhythms ... Lots of thought and energy went into this raw bundle of explosive music. Crank it up and blow the dust out of your speakers. You can thank me later."
- Greg "Bluesdog" Szalony, Blues Blast Magazine, 2024
From the rolling hills of South Gippsland, Jungle Jim Smith released his highly anticipated 12-track debut album ‘This is Ghost Country’.
With songwriting inspired by the sometimes dark, sometimes absurd moments in life, ‘This is Ghost Country’ paces steadily through varied moods. Opening with the upbeat urgency of first single, live favourite ‘Death and Whiskey’ and the rhythmic swagger of second single ‘Lucky Me’, the album continues through driving riffs and percussive beats, while at times wandering into quieter meandering moments such as ‘Ballad of Little Hawk’ exploring more stripped back, introspective territory.
Though undeniably blues based, this collection of songs can’t be boxed into a fixed genre. Smith’s vocals bend from a honey-laced croon to gravel laden growls, just as his guitar work shifts from chugging rhythms to classic blues noodling, all bound by a fine riffage finesse.
Jungle Jim Smith is a one-man-blues-band with a rock’n’roll heart. Delivered with a raw croon, he blends dirty blues and swamp that pumps with rockabilly grit, forging a full-band sound uniquely his own. Available on compact disc, limited edition hand numbered vinyl, Bandcamp and the usual streaming platforms. Enjoy!
